The Foundation is proud to stand beside the Greater High Point Food Alliance, supporting them as they address hunger in our community.

This letter from Matt Thiel, spokesman of the Alliance addresses the progress made since January 2015…

I am so proud of our Greater High Point community. Since learning that High Point is number one in our country for food insecurity, many of you decided, “This is not ok”. Your response to the hardship of our neighbors continues to be truly inspirational.

Over the last nine months, dozens of churches, families, businesses, and organizations raised their awareness and contribution to this effort. You added your voices, time, talent and encouragement to expand the efforts of bringing an end to food hardship in our community. A few examples include – the United Way’s “Canpaign” Drive – the largest food drive in the history of High Point, a new partnership between the YMCA and Lisa’s Kids to get more food out to those in need, and a new Hi-Toms event, “Home Runs for Hunger,” that provided food for 50 local families.

Over the next 90 days, you will continue to see progress in our efforts to alleviate hunger. In West End a new community garden, called “Bountiful Harvest,” is now open. In Burns Hill their first ever community food pantry started serving neighbors this week. A first-ever “food drop” in High Point through our partnership with Second Harvest will expand. We are also creating a new resource guide to describe how and where to seek food assistance.

We recognize chronic hunger will not be solved overnight. However through a process of continual improvement, we believe progress can and will be made. It is our commitment to lead this effort by taking actions, NOW!

Please join us. We have a unique opportunity to show our greatness through support and compassion. A key to our success is UNITY, bringing the community together. As we come together we are empowering those in need. Ultimately, our efforts will lead to solutions that are sustainable and allow our neighbors to provide for themselves. As we do, so much more than hunger will change. We will build a better High Point. With your support, we can do this. Let’s do it, NOW!
